The purposes of this study are (1) to understand the cognitive level and operational situation of instructional and managerial strategies currently occurring in this area; (2) to analyze what the impacts caused by different contexual variables on the outcomes of the above two facets: instructional and managerial strategies; (3) to analyze the correlationship between cognitive level and operational situation which lead to the instructional and managerial strategies; (4) to inquire the predictability of the operational situation that is based on the level of cognition in instructonal and managerial strategies. Two self-devised questionaires are employed to the subject of this study. They are “the questionaire of instructional strategies of musical ensemble” and “the questionaire of school administrators’ managerial strategies.” Questionaire respondents are the instructors of children band and recorder ensemble in regional music contests in Yunlin and Chiayi area in the school year of 2006 as well as school administraors. The return rate of the instructors is 84.6%, and the return rate of the administors is 83.2%. The data collected was calculated by the following techniques: the mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Sheffe’s method, Pearson’s product-moment correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. The findings of this study are in the following: 1. In the levels of cognition and operational situation, the instructors in the music ensemble perform at the average and above, the highest item is “application of the teaching material.” For the administrators, they perfom at a middle level quality in “managerial strategies.” To their cognitive awareness and operational situation, they perform best in “managing the funding.” 2. Due to the diverse backgrounds of individual instructors, it is partly significant difference in their instructional and managerial strategies. 3. On the instructors “instructional strategies” and the administrators’ “managerial strategies,” the correlation of the cognitive level and operational situation are both positively correlated. The higher the cognitive level is, the higher the operational situation. 4. Among all the factors related to overall teaching strategies, the teaching skill of the instructors is the greatest predictability. In overall managerial strategies, the interpersonal communicative skill of the administrators is the greatest predictability. Accoding to the findings, suggestions are provided for educational authorities, school administrators, instructors of the music ensemble, and further study in the future.
