Summary:碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 技術及職業教育研究所碩士班 === 95 === Qualitive research method is adapted in this study to investigate the status quo and difficulties of the career development of single mothers together with the possible factors that may affect the vocational career development decision making of the single mothers discussed. Seven single mothers (four of whom get low in-income certificate) with children under the age of 18 in Changhua county are invited to participate as cases in the study. During the one and a half year research, through observation, interview and document analysis, data and information are collected; in the research process, semi-structured interview goes on. The research instrument if s set of self-developed interview outline, with validity tested by experts, which is intended to induct and analyze the information on the single mothers. The research result reveals that: 1. Single mothers do face difficulties when they are on-job or applying for a job. I. difficulties for applying a job include lacking of working opportunity, unable to fulfill job requirement, lacking of confidence and working sills II. on-job difficulties include difficulties caused by individual, family and society 2. The internal and external factors that affect the vocational and career development of single mothers are as followed: I. The internal factors are the health condition, children caring, education background and proficiency, self-recognition and causes of being single mother. These factors affect the working time, working place, income, promotion and working proficiency of single mothers. II. The external factors are system and welfare of working place, views on single mothers, support and resources from family, and education and vocation training systems. With good development of these factors. Single mothers can have a successful vocational career.
