碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 資訊管理系碩士班 === 95 === Because of the popularity of broadband network and digital video devices, sharing homemade videos and watching them on the Internet is becoming one of the most popular network activities. And those “user-generated content” based video sharing platforms like YouTube, are even thought as a new media revolution. However, the platforms today were almost built under the client-server structure. It means the platforms shall provide all the huge bandwidths and computations the video sharing service needed. When users and videos increase, the platform provider must cost a lot to buy more bandwidth and better machines to keep the quality of service. For reducing the cost, the platforms often choose to limit the length and quality of their videos. Furthermore, the platforms attract many users with “user-generated” clips but the users get barely “real” reward from their effort. This may not only decreased the passion of the content provider for sharing videos, but also caused the unfair benefit distribution. Respecting the above problems, we propose a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) video sharing platform based on BitTorrent technology. Through the characteristic of resource sharing of P2P network, it could effectively relieve the load of platforms. Thus, the new platform can provide service for more clients simultaneously and provide higher quality films. We also introduce the concept of Digital Rights Management (DRM) into the platform to protect the “user generated content” and hope everyone could earn what they deserved through their own efforts and creativity.
