Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 資訊管理系碩士班 === 95 === Due to societal structural changes, the fact of decreasing rate birth rate has forced Taiwan into a negative population growth stage. Besides, from1997 Taiwan has launched an educational revolution initiative, including establishments of more and more higher educational institutes to lessen students’ burdens of entrance examinations. Consequently, all educational institutes have to face the challenges of effective recruiting students. Under this highly competitive pressure, it would be hard to survive without sound recruiting strategies to maintain and improve recruiting performance. As a result, how to formulate most appropriate recruiting strategies comes to be an important issue.
This research bases on a private institute of technology located in central Taiwan, with data of students enrolled in 2005 from two major admission channels: 4-year TVE college and 2-year TVE college. Data mining techniques were applied to discover meaningful patterns of samples’ profiles to provide insightful background for recruiting strategies formulation. Specific tools adopted are K-means cluster analysis and CART decision tree algorithms conducted by SPSS Clementine 7.2.
The major findings of this research can be listed as follows. First, 4-year TVE college students show strong space proximity as most of them are from central Taiwan area and graduated from TVE high schools there. Among them male students prefer business administration related departments; while female students prefer practical-oriented applied life science relate departments. Second, 2-year TVE college students also own strong space proximity as most of them are from central Taiwan; and there exists gap between enrolled and graduated years. Third, both 4-year TVE college and 2-year TVE college show a significant similar trend as college of design attracts students from northern Taiwan; while students from central Taiwan prefer business administration and applied life science related departments. Fourth, since significant fewer students from southern and eastern part of Taiwan implies these two areas have great potentiality to explore. All these conclusions provide helpful guidance for enhancing recruiting strategies.
