Summary: | 博士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 工程科技研究所博士班 === 95 === 3-picoline is the main material for producing vitamin B3 (Nicotinic acid) and also is an important chemical for various medical and agricultural applications in industry. An efficient method for preparing 3-picoline is direct oxidation of by oxygen from air with special catalyst in the temperature range of 250–290℃. Therefore, in industrial processes, information on the safety property of chemicals is essentially crucial for safe handling during unit operations.
This study started with an initial temperature of 270℃, various initial pressure and oxygen concentrations, together with four typical 3-picoline vapor mixing ratios (5、10、30、100 vol %) produced in process measurements by a 20-L-Apparatus in series to obtain the flammability properties of lower flammability limit (LFL), upper flammability limit (UFL), maximum explosion pressure (Pmax), rate of maximum explosion pressure rise ((dP/dt)max), vapor deflagration index (Kg), and minimum oxygen concentration (MOC).
An experimental study of flammability characteristics of 3-picoline/water mixtures has been reported. It has been found that the presence of water vapor resulted in shrinking the explosion limits or flammable region. The Pmax, Kg, (dP/dt)max, and explosion class were all increased with augmenting the initial pressure and oxygen concentration. With the experimental results, we could provide specific information for related industries and help them prevent accidents in the future.
