碩士 === 國立陽明大學 === 社區護理研究所 === 95 === Abstract
Background: The prevalence rate of obesity is substantially growing up globally. The Department of Physical Education, the Taiwan Ministry of Education established the recommendations of physical activity and healthy eating for students at 2005. Investigators should evaluate the properness and effects of physical activity and diet and previous recommendations to adolescent obesity.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the difference of physical activity and dietary behavior between obese and non-obese junior high school students. Furthermore, it is to examine the appropriateness of recommendations of active life and healthy diet among junior high school students.
Method: This study was a cross-sectional, descriptive correlative research, which is a part of research of “Aid students to fit” conducted by Dr. Yiing Mei Liou. The population was students in junior high school from Taipei, Taichung, and Hualian County and Kaosh city. The sample size was 8,892 come from 38 schools by the Multi-stage stratified sampling of probability Proportional to Sample Size (PPS). Used self-administration scale-body weight management questionnaire for junior high students collected health status, physical activity, and diet data from December 1 in 2006 to February 15 in 2007. Un-obesity group (UOG) include overweight (OW), normal weight (NW) and underweight (UW) that based on the criteria of youth obesity from The Department of Health, Taiwan. The data of obesity group (OG) and UOG analyzed by SPSS 12.0 version of chi-square, independent t test, and Odds ratio.
Result: Investigators recruited 13150 cases, and 11347 valid cases (valid rate=86.3%). There were 51.8% boys and 48.2% girls; Taipei County was 28.8%, Taichung County was 23.8%, Kaoch City was 24.8% and Haulian County was 22.6%. Some classes, all students answered the questionnaires for the administrative convenience. Based on the sampling frame, investigators randomly selected cases in the class to get 8640 participants. At this phase, Taipei County had the most overweight students (24.9%), Kaoch City had the most overweight and obesity subjects (26.6%), and Haulian County owned the most normal weight cases (53.4%).
In order to present the national representative data, the subjects weighted by areas, gender and grades. The final analyzed data had 52.4% boys and 47.6% girls; Taipei County was 50.7%, Taichung County was 24.1%, Kaoch City was 20.5% and Haulian County was 4.7%; underweight was 23.6%, normal was 50.2%, overweight was 10.9%, and obesity was 15.4%. There were no significant difference at vigorous and moderate intensity physical activity and walking in obesity and un-obesity groups. The groups difference showed in sedentary leisure time after school that had nothing to do with learning such as TV watching (OG=89.3 min/day, UOG= 82.9 min/day, p =.001); video game, internet access, and computer using (OG=75.2 min/day, UOG= 67.0 min/day, p =.001), extracurricular books reading (OG=48.9 min/day, UOG= 43.8 min/day, p =.001). There were as well as varied at weekend: TV watching (OG=141.4 min/day, UOG=134.1 min/day, p<.001); video game, internet access, and computer using (OG=134.3 min/day, UOG=121.7 min/day, p <.001), extracurricular books reading (OG=61.5 min/day, UOG=55.4 min/day, p =.001). The sleep time of at weekend of OG (8.3 hrs/day) was lower than UOG (8.7 hrs/day). The kinds of flied food of OG (0.66 kind/day) was more than UOG (0.59 kind/day). The frequency of breakfast eating out of OG (4.13 time/day) was higher than UOG (3.94 time/day).
Conclusion: Physical activity, eating, and obesity were reciprocal. This study proved sedentary behavior, flied food, and breakfast eating out were the determiners of youth obesity. In order to prevent and manage of obesity for junior high students, decreasing the sedentary leisure time after school to change to active lifestyle and deceasing ingested fried food and breakfast eating out are important issues.
