Body dissatisfaction was a great impact to postpartum women. The main concern of postpartum women was to return to their original body shape. The objectives of this study were to describe body satisfaction at 4 to 5 week, 11 to 12 week, and 24-25 week after birth, and to examine factors related to body satisfaction at six months postpartum. This study applied a prospective design. We recruited 134 postpartum women at two hospitals in Taipei area. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data during home visits during 2 to 3 weeks, 4 to 5 weeks, 11 to 12 weeks, and 24-25 weeks postpartum. The study variables included socio-demographics, pregnancy and labor characteristics, body weight before and after delivery, postpartum body satisfaction, and postpartum physical and mental health. TANITA UM-014 Body Fat Monitor/Scale was used to measure body weight. Body satisfaction was measured using Body Image Scale, which included 13 items of 7-likert-type questions with higher scores indicating higher body dissatisfaction. The results demonstrated that the mean score of body satisfaction were 62.09±11.26, 61.74±11.27, 60.94±9.76 at three time points. The mean scores decreased but did not show significant differences. Body dissatisfaction of postpartum women were mainly focusing on belly (5.655±0.96) , waist (5.23±1.12), whole stature (5.12±1.08), and hip (5.10±1.19). Multiple linear regression showed that women with higher weight gains at 11-12 weeks after delivery were more likely to be dissatisfied with their body at six months after delivery (t=2.59,P=0.011). Women with a height of <160 cm were more likely to be dissatisfied with their body (t=1.99,P=0.049). Our results suggested that body satisfaction did not improve with changes in body size postpartum. Medical personnel need to care and understand changes in body shape and body satisfaction among women during pregnancy and after delivery. Related health education and social support need to be given during the period in order to increase awareness of postpartum body changes, thus increasing acceptance of body change and decreasing postpartum body dissatisfaction Li-Yin Chien 簡莉盈 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 204 zh-TW
