The individuality and self-motivation in learning behavior are emphasized in the process of exploration. In order to achieve the integration of mind and body, learners are encouraged to use their bodies to create different meanings for movements in various ways. Motif Writing is a movement learning tool which is an extension based on Labanotation, through which learners can make use of a variety of body languages to interpret a specific symbol personally. The content structure of Motif Writing is easily recognized and applied for children to explore movements. By integrating Motif Writing in children’s creative dance class provides great opportunities to open up potential and creativity regarding movement education. This research is carried out by action research method with 35 third-grade students from an elementary school in Kaohsiung as the research subject. The curriculum is designed by the researcher who is also the teacher to give a lesson once a week, 40 minutes per session. The research is conducted and implemented through teaching, participation observation, video-tape recording, teacher’s diary, and students’ assignments, evaluations from a colleague and a scholar, and valid data analysis. The results of the research reveal: 1. Motif Writing symbols can be effectively used as a tool for expressing and performing movements. 2. Motif Writing can be used as a tool for guiding movement exploration. 3. Motif Writing encourages refined creativity in movements. 4. The application of Motif Writing in creative dance is in accordance with the idea of integrated curriculum and teaching. 5. Motif Writing provides another choice for assessment on dance experiences. It is expected that this research will boost more related researches in dance field for the future.
