碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 視覺藝術研究所 === 95 === Orlan is a contemporary female artist of France.She is good at being engaged in the artistic creation with her own body. The most controversial works of hers are series of operation performances in the 1990s. In Taiwan, we havn’t seen books or thesis refering mainly to Orlan yet.All we have are brief, fragmentary articles of her operation performance. However, I think Orlan’s special creation tactics are worth pondering and discussing.Either her works taking religion as the theme, or the performance that combined with operation and fashion, or her usages of ugly strange personal portraits in computer technology fluctuated out in later period, have always full of thought-provoking meanings.Through the research of this female artist ,consulting the analysis of many reviewers, and some body theories, and of post-modern ideology and feminism, I expect to understand more and explore deeper into Orlan’s work. The contents of this thesis are roughly divided into three parts: 1.Probe into the contemporary body ideological trends of several important male thinkers and post-modern French feminists,and the instruction of female’s body art. 2.Artistic creation career of Orlan: I divided her artistic creation career into several paragraphs ,including: early creation of 60’s-70’s , the controversial performance of feministic style of which raises hot debate in 70’s-80’s , series of “Drapery,the Baroque,Saint Orlan”of 80’s , the operation performance “ The Reincarnation of Saint Orlan” began in 1990s that made her famous, the computer formates the image “self- hybridization”,and the film “shot at a movie”'in the later period. And I would try to understand the styles of her works in her various periods of time,and the inner meaning of her creations by analysing the picture of her works; 3. Probe into Oran’s body art from 4 different aspects : Christian elements in her works, comparing her works with the cosmetic operation of the fashion ,and reading her works from points of view of carnivalism and cyborg theories.
