Summary: | 碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 社會科學教育學系碩士班 === 95 === The purpose of this study is to understand the relationship between parental
self-control and parenting strategies, and further investigate how different children’s
and parental background variables influence parenting strategies. Finally we analyze
how background and self-control variables predict parenting style.
The method of this study is based on the research of questionnaire survey. We
first use “responsiveness” and “demanding” as two different dimensions to distinguish
different parenting strategies, and then use median of these dimensions as boundary
point to classify four parenting styles: authoritative, authoritarian, neglecting and
indulgent. The subjects in the survey are parents of fifth-grade students in elementary
schools at Taipei city. We totally select 621 parents for subjects of the survey. Data are
analyzed by statistical methods including descriptive analysis, factor analysis,
reliability analysis, Pearson’s product-moment correlation, T-test, F-test, Post hoc test
and regression analysis. In result of this study, we have some new findings listed
below:
I. The parenting style can be distinguished in teams of different parental background
variables.
The parenting style can be distinguished from different variables: parental gender,
degree of education, occupation and marriage status.
II. The parenting style can be predicted by parental background variables and parental
self-control ability.
1. The behavior of parental supervision can be effectively predicted by these
variables: impulsivity, self-centered and parental gender.
2. The behavior of parental recognition can be effectively predicted by these
variables: impulsivity, speculation, self-centered and parental gender.
3. The behavior of parental punishment can be effectively predicted by these
variables: impulsivity, speculation, self-centered, parental gender, degree of
education and marriage status.
4. The behavior of parental demanding can be effectively predicted by these
variables: impulsivity, speculation, self-centered, parental gender, degree of
education and marriage status.
5. The behavior of parental responsiveness can be effectively predicted by these
variables: impulsivity, risk-taking, self-centered, parental gender, degree of
education and marriage status.
III. The parenting style can be predicted by children’s and parental background
variables and parental self-control ability.
The parenting style can be effectively predicted by these variables: impulsivity,
speculation, self-centered, parental gender, children’s gender and ranking of all
siblings
