It results in a high growth rate of premium income till 2000. However, the growth rate of premium income is getting low, even a recession of 3.64% in 2006. In fact, the performance of non-life insurance company relies on it’s market strategy. The purpose of this research is to find out the well-performed non-life insurance companies together with their merits, which can be a good example to other companies. This research adopts the Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) and Malmquist Approaches to evaluate the performance efficiency of thirteen local non-life insurance companies in Taiwan based on the relative efficiency and scale efficiency during the period from 1986 to 2005. From the aspect of marketing stage, Fubon Insurance Co.,Ltd., Chung Kuo Insurance Co.,Ltd. and Taiwan Fire & Marine Insurance Co., Ltd. have better performances and The Taiping Insurance Co., Ltd., Kuo-hua Insurance Co., Ltd. show worse and unstable performance amongst these thirteen companies. From the aspect of the profitability stage, The Taiping Insurance Co., Ltd., Kuo-hua Insurance Co., Ltd. and Central Insurance Co., Ltd. have worse results amongst them.
