Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the relationship among internet interpersonal interaction, attachment style, and social skills of adolescent in Taichung City. Researcher hopes that the results of the study findings can be offered to educators as a reference at work of the practice.
The data is collected by paper and pencil questionnaires from the 860 adolescent in Taichung City. The instruments used in this study include “ Internet Interaction Scale”, “Adolescent Attachment Style Scale”, “Social Skill Scale”. The t-test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data and the results were shown as below:
1. Most of adolescent in Taichung City, the first time to use Internet was at the third grade in elementary school. The average frequency of using Internet is above fourth a week. As they are in the Internet, communication software of internet interaction is frequently utilized for sharing their secrets in mind with classmates and friends.
2. Adolescents in Taichung City often need more confidence in communicating to others and are eager for relaxations of pressure as they step into internet interaction. Most of adolescents are with secure attachment style. The social skills of adolescents, totally speaking, are well enough except the social skill to adults.
3. Adolescents who spend more time on internet, by contrast, would frequently look for the internet interaction to others, but their social skills to adults are worse than the adolescents who spend less time on internet. Students in junior get more frequent into internet interaction than the students in senior do, and the social skills of junior student are also better than the social skills of senior student. The social skills of young girl is better than the social skills of young boy. Adolescents who always tend to share their secrets in mind to internet friends, by contrast, would frequently step into internet interaction. Adolescents who always tend to share their secrets in mind to classmates or parents have better social skills than who often share their secrets to internet friends have. The adolescents with secure attachment style have better social skills than the adolescents with no-secure attachment style have.
4. The secure attachment style has a positive correlation with the social skills and internet interpersonal interaction. A positive correlation also exists between internet interpersonal interaction and social skills.
5. Adolescent Social skills in which the 17% of variance can be accounted by the variables of secure attachment, fearful attachment, satisfaction for achievement, confidence in communicating to others, and pressure released.
