The association between overweight/obese and chronic health conditions has been widely documented. This study explores the factors that influencing the overweight and obesity who try to lose weight by using the dataset of Panel Study of Family Dynamic.
Panel Study of Family Dynamic is collected by the Program of Study of Chinese Families Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences (RCHSS), Acadamia Sinica. The studying objects are merged from the years of 2000, 2003 and 2004. The adults whose BMI (Kg/M2) are over 24 were used as the research targets and the sample size is 1,100. For the statistical analysis, the descriptive analysis and the Chisquare test were employed to do the descriptive and correlation analyses. Logistic Regression was used to examine the predictor of the behavior of losing weight.
This study found that groups of the women who have higher education, lower economic income, higher weight, good self-awareness of health condition, higher self-aware susceptibility in marriage relationship, higher self-aware susceptibility in interpersonal relationship, or higher self-aware susceptibility in personal image are more likely to be associated with behavior of losing weight. Nevertheless, the groups of the men who have higher self-aware susceptibility in marriage relationship, higher self-aware susceptibility in personal health are more likely to maintain weight.
Through this study the factors that influence the behaviors of trying to lose weight are found among overweight and obesity. The findings will help future studies to recruit the right targets to be the focus group, and to include those significant factors to do further analysis.
