Taiwanese researchers have focused on the medical utilization for a certain disease rather than on the outpatient medical utilization, never. Further, patients with catastrophic illness can partially pay for medical resources. Doctors will judge if one should be hospitalized, whereas outpatient services cannot refrain people with minor disease from coming and the medical expense for this service is paid by the whole people. Therefore, this study looks into the outpatient medical utilization for catastrophic illness in terms of the demography, hospital and outpatient services as well as involved factors. This study, through analyzing patients with catastrophic illness and the 2000-2004 data of National Health Research Institutes, propose the following findings: 1. Analyzed by the least squares method or quantile regression, the assessment, belongings, districts, ages, gender and doses will impact on the average registration fee. 2. In the negative-binominal regression model, the assessment, belongings, districts, ages, gender and doses will impact on the number of one’s attending clinics. 3. In respect of gender and dose, quantile regression has the same results with those of OLS model. The remaining variables turn out differently from the both models.
