Summary: | 碩士 === 世新大學 === 企業管理研究所(含碩專班) === 95 === This is an exploratory qualitative research on the domestic pharmaceutical industry in Taiwan. Interviews based on qualitative approaches have been conducted. Questions in the interviews are constructed in respect to the 5 forces analysis (Michael Porter, 1985), the generic strategies of cost leadership, product differentiation and focus (Michael Porter, 1980), and the resource-based theory (R.M. Grant, 1991). The interviewees are senior executives in major corporations in the industry. The objective is to outline and analyze the current competitive strategies adopted by these corporations. Furthermore, analysis of the industry, based on 5 forces analysis and SWOT analysis, has yielded the following suggestions:
1. Select a niche market and appropriate products, considering the corporation’s credits and capability, to avoid homogeneous products to its competitors.
2. Export generic drugs. In view of the expanding market of generic drugs in the US and Europe in recent years, domestic corporations should accelerate adapting their drugs to foreign regulations, and expand exporting to foreign markets..
3. Develop the new dosage forms and new effects.
4. Ensure product quality, steady product supply, prompt customer service, and fast response to customer’s need, in order to satisfy customers and create a good business reputation and business image.
5. Instead of vicious competition, specialization and merging in the industry are the solutions in the quest for a robust and competitive corporation and for reasonable profits.
6. The government should coordinate the industry’s capability in production and marketing with academic resources in research. The result could be new products which make the industry more competitive and lucrative.
