Onomatopoeias in this dissertation come from 12 Taiwan dialect dictionaries. Through analyses of these onomatopoeias, we hope to have a further understanding of onomatopoeias in Taiwanese. The analyses are in four aspects: Firstly, we discuss the definition of onomatopoeia and its character of linguistic symbols and categories of its part of speech in hope of understanding the differences among onomatopoeia and other parts of speech. This dissertation strictly redefines the definition of onomatopoeia, and through the demonstrations of Saussure’s arbitraries of the linguistic symbols theory and Peirce’s identification of symbols theory, it shows the unique character of the onomatopoeia. As for category of part of speech, via the outcome of comparison with other parts of speech, we find that it is necessary to have onomatopoeias be an independent part of speech. Secondary, according to the different contents of the onomatopoeia’s imitation, we classify collected onomatopoeias in detail in order to discuss the connection within their pronunciation and meaning. We classify the word meaning of onomatopoeia in 5 categories: the voice of people onomatopoeia, the voice of animal onomatopoeia, the voice of nature onomatopoeia, the voice of material onomatopoeia and the voice of musical instrument onomatopoeia. Thirdly, we analyze the connection between word meaning and pronunciation of Taiwanese onomatopoeias from vowel, consonant, and intonation. In order to increases the reliability of arguments; we use statistical method in analyzing vowels. The result of statistic shows that the vowel has a closer relation with word meaning and the consonant has less influence to word meaning. Taiwanese onomatopoeia has its fluidness and different onomatopoeia has less influence to word meaning. Finally, this dissertation uses McCarthy’s the rhythm construction theory to analyze Taiwanese onomatopoeia and breaks through the limitation of traditional way, which analyzing the rule of onomatopoeia rhythm by using single-line SPE method. By using rhythm construction method to analyze the construction of onomatopoeia syllable, we can obviously find out its way of none continuous episode in word construction. none 姚榮松 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 276 zh-TW
