The beginning of Chinese language translation started from the Italian Catholic missionary Matteo Ricci (1552-1610) in his book 《The Strange Mark of Western Letters》, explained how to use Latin letters to spell Han language words. Ever since the publication of that book, all kinds of Chinese translation systems have appeared in the world. After the separating rules of China in 1950s, when Mainland China entered U.N. in 1971, the U.N. has decreed to use China’s 「Han Language Spelling」 system to replace the original Wade Romanization System as the standard of Chinese phonetic translation and promoted it to the world. Unlike rest of the world, Taiwan still has different standard translation systems between cities and the state, which results linguistic confusion for its people and other foreign friends.
