碩士 === 靜宜大學 === 資訊管理學系研究所 === 95 === Language archiving is an important topic of the Digital Archiving research. The Yami language is one of the endangered languages as above. The development of a language archive for the endangered language can preserve cultures, knowledge, and experiences of languages. Language revitalization is an important issue discussed in the project of the endangered language archiving. In this thesis, we use ontology concepts to construct an experimental approach for analyzing and protecting the Yami language. The purposes of this research are to investigate an extended way of language archive and develop an automatic semantic architecture of Yami language. We designed a system to translate Yami into Chinese and English. The system is constructed based on the concepts of ontology, and it is viable to automatically translate Yami sentences to English or Chinese. Even if there is no a same sentence in knowledge base, the system can output similar results of Chinese and English through analyses and processes of ontology. This system can facilitate archiving, extensions, and applications of Yami and build Yami ontology including culture meaning attributes to help the construction of semantic web.
