The purpose of the study is to develop an integrated model of antecedents of subsidiaries’ initiatives in the developing market. We collected data from Taiwanese firms in Mainland China before 2006 using a questionnaire survey, and obtained 185 valid responses. The key findings, using LISREL software for analysis, are as follows: (1) Distinctive capabilities, location advantage of R&D, subsidiaries’ credibility, and international entrepreneurship of subsidiaries can facilitate subsidiaries’ initiative; (2) Location advantage of R&D and international entrepreneurship of subsidiaries will promote subsidiaries’ distinctive capabilities; (3) International entrepreneurship of subsidiaries has a strong positive impact on subsidiaries’ autonomy; (4) Location advantage of R&D will affect subsidiaries’ initiative indirectly through distinctive capability; and (5) Subsidiaries’ international entrepreneurship is strongly associated with subsidiaries’ initiative through distinctive capability, and the distinctive capability is mediate.
