The reason for this comes from the notebook computer brands’ market concentration, and by the large scale advantages of "The Big Get Bigger" 1st tier OEM suppliers. Such a change is threatening the survival of Taiwanese 2nd tier notebook computer manufacturers. As the industry becomes more developed and mature, and stimulated by the aesthetic trend; the flexibility in the strategy and design used by Taiwanese 2nd tier notebook computer manufacturers to overcome the difficulties, and find niche opportunities becomes the motive of this study. This paper takes one of the Taiwanese 2nd tier notebook computer manufacturers (CLEVO Company) as the subject of study. Through data collection and analysis, and many in-depth interviews with experts in this field, this paper discusses the relationship between the company's products and design development strategies. The results of this study are as follows: 1.The competitive advantages of Taiwanese 2nd tier notebook computer manufacturers over 1st tier OEM suppliers is their ability, flexibility and manifesting capability to supply the global market with few but diverse products. 2.2nd tier notebook computer manufacturers in the process of searching product differentiation must place an increasing importance to the industrial design of the product. 3."Differentiation" and "cost reduction" are two main criteria to take into consideration when 2nd tier notebook computer manufacturers are planning for their product development strategy.
