However, it still suffers from performance inconsistency in real operations. In this research, the theory of relative stability is applied to the study of twin-ball balancers. The maximum real part of eigenvalues from the Jacobian matrix is employed as an index for the analysis. Perturbed transient responses are also investigated to explore the relationship between this index and the settling time. By this approach, it is found that the angular velocity of the spindle motor, race damping and mass of the stator have significant effect on the system’s relative stability.
