Description
Summary:碩士 === 臺灣大學 === 地理環境資源學研究所 === 95 === Map is not only an effective tool for geography research and teaching but important tool in modern life. In several countries such as the United Kingdom, U.S.A., and Japan map ability is generally considered as fundamental skill for all students. In Taiwan, map knowledge and skill has also been integrated into geographic curriculum for K-12 levels. Contour map is effective and informative in presenting terrain relief. In spite of recent development of digital maps, the convenience and value of contour maps cannot be replaced. However, reading contour map is a difficult task for teachers and students. This research takes advantage of the versatile representation provided by geographic information system and designs teaching material to assist contour instruction. Its aim is to raise the effects of learning contour and increase the ability of students’ reading maps. The study is based on quasi-experimental research. The performances of two experimental groups in contour map-reading are evaluated and compared. The result of this research shows that reading maps ability of these students is very limited. Using colorful hillshading maps created from DTM, this research shows that find such new representation of terrain can help enhance students’ ability in reading contour map.
