The national lands are all over the entire country in terms of level grounds, mountainous terrains, forests and shores. The types of lands are many and the current status of lands is constantly changing due to natural or man-made reasons, so that it is difficult to control and manage. Therefore, it all depends on the integration of attributes and graphic information and the establishment of digital registration database for quick search of national lands locations, shapes and dynamic space distribution for instant effective use. Through the reading of literatures, this study tries to understand the theoretical backgrounds, applications and development of GIS and the current status of national lands administration in Taiwan to analyze features and functions of GIS and the needs of digital registration data for national lands management and to devise a structure in which the GIS for national lands is planned and operated. Then, several supervisors and workers from 3 local and 12 branch offices of National Property Administration, Ministry of Finance, as the study objects through questionnaire surveys and interviews. Subsequently, the practical effects of archives reseting and graphic layering inquiries and analysis of national lands GIS registration data for the national lands management are evaluated along with the difficulty of using various registration data by introducing the attitudes and comments of the above personnel on the uses of GIS for the reference of policy making patterns.
