Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 教育研究所 === 95 === The purpose of this study was to investigate factors, including demographic variables, classroom learning environment, self-concept, significant of others, and aspiration, that may influence expectation for higher education of junior high school students on remote islands of Taiwan. For this purpose, a self-developed questionnaire was used to collect information regarding the factors and students’ expectation for higher education. Respondents were 1120 junior high school students on rural and remote islands, including Penghu, Kimen, Matsu, Lyudao, Lanyu and Liouciou, of Taiwan. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, multiple regression were used in this study. The major findings of the study are: 1) Approximately 73% junior high school students on remote islands wish to attend institutions of higher education, and about 72% parents of the students on remote islands expect their children to obtain at least bachelor’s degrees in the future; 2) Students on Matsu and Lyudao islands tend to show higher expectation for higher education than students on the other islands; 3) Students on urbanized regions of the islands, students with good academic achievement, and students with high SES have higher expectation for higher education; 4) Classroom learning environment, self-concept, significant of others and aspiration factors are positively correlated to students’ expectation for higher education; 5) Demographic variables of SES and academic achievement, 3 variables of classroom learning environment such as students cohesiveness, task orientation and students involvement, school self-concept, significant of others, and 2 variables of aspiration factor such as expectation for university and impression of life at university can be significant variables to predict junior high school students’ expectation for higher education.
