Abstract
The maior purpose of this research stresses upon the probing of variants , which influence the accomplishment motives of elementary-school students in Tai-tung County of Taiwan; and thus, through the outcomes of this research , some available suggestions are offered as parts of the conclusion . These variants are devided into “demographic factors”(e.g. genders, school-grades, ethnic groups. ) , “individual factors”(e.g. residential communities, campus activity groups attended, the orders of birth, family structures. ), “Family factors”(e.g. parents’ expectancy, socio-economical status , educational attitudes, and marriages ), “school factors” (e.g. expectancy and genders of teachers, the amounts of members of classes and the scale of the school. ). The probing is operated through the method of qustionnaires, ranging over second, fourth, and sixth-grade students of 34 elemetary schools in Tai-tung County. 1805 copies of qustionnaires were sent out, and 1660 copies were returned(among them, 113 copies were invalid, while 1547 copies were valid), the percentage of valid copies returned reached to 93.1%. We did the data analysis using SPSS10.0 for Windows, and exerted the Descriptic-Statistic- Analysis approach, the T-Test approach, one-way ANOVA approach, the scheffe’ method approach, and the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation approach to induce the findings and conclusions as follows:
1. The mean of per item in valid qustionnaires reached to 3. 22, higher than general mean . It shows that students in Tai-tung County perform mid-higher accomplishment motives.
2. The accomplishment motives are assessed through four dimensions, which arrayed in order of performance-”assignment orientation”,”self-development orientation”,”self-defense orientation”,”escapism orientation”.
3. The variants performing comparatively higher relevances to accomplishment motives are-school-grades, genders, ethnic groups, residential communities, campus activity groups attended, family structures , expectancy of parents, marriages of parents, educational attitudes of parents, socio-economical status of parents, expectancy of teachers, genders of teachers, the scale of the school.
4. Three variants-the orders of birth , family structures, the amounts of members of classes reveal low relevance to accomplishment motives.
5. High relevances are shown among three dimensions- ”assignment orientation”,”self-development orientation”,”self-defense orientation” and the outcomes of the general scale of accomplishment motives ; meanwhile, ”escapism orientation”reveals low relevance to the latter.
6. The variants- expectancy of teachers, school-grades, parents’ educational attitudes , parents’ expectancy, genders , residential communities, the genders of teachers, parents’ socio-economical status, offer high validity in predictions of the outcomes both of the general scale and each dimentional scale of accomplishment motives . noteworthily, expectancy of teachers performs best among them.
In the end of this essay, some suggestions are offered as reference for teaching staff and for further research of educational field.
