Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 教育研究所 === 95 === The researcher seeks to adopt movies as the teaching tool in a series of life education curriculum which is suitable for 5th graders in the primary school. Through question discussion and reflection, the program leads students to experience how the characters search for their own value, experience the beauty of life and discover the meaning of life. Further, hopefully, the students may reflect these experiences to their own true life and become aware of their own problems. Finally, they could interpret the meaning and value of life with positive attitude. The aim of the study is to explore the effects of Movie-based Life Education Curriculum on self-concept and meaning of life to the 5th graders of primary school. Furthermore, based on the outcomes of the study, the researcher provided specific and feasible suggestions.
This research employed the experimental research designs. The research objects were the 5th graders of a primary school in Pingtong. The students of the experimental group were instructed with the Movie-based Life Education Curriculum, three sections of a week for nine weeks. There are forty minutes in each section. Tennessee Self-Concept Scale was adopted as the main research tool. Pretest and final test were carried out in order to investigate the influence of the Movie-based Life Education Curriculum to students’ self-concept improvement; the searcher analyzed the results of unit feedback sheets, worksheets, question discussion and teaching reflection in order to evaluate the performance of the program from various angles.
Results of the study are as follows:
1.The self-concept of the target students need to be improved.
2.The Movie-based Life Education Curriculum can effectively improve students’ self-concept in the aspects of personal self, social self, and self identity.
3.This grogram can not effectively improve students’ self-concept in the aspects of physical self, moral-ethical self, school self, family self, self satisfaction, self behavior and self-concept in a whole. On the other hand, students made progresses on the Self-Concept Scale.
4. 5th graders’ self-concept can be improved through the implement of effective life education curriculum. In other words, life-education curriculum can terminate students’ deviating self-concept.
5.The students of experimental group expressed their fondness for the Movie-based Life Education Curriculum. They perceived that they got to know themselves better. In addition, the students have learned to respect others and gained better understanding about their life directions and life meaning.
6.Worksheets and question discussion can facilitate students’ thinking ability and expressing skills. However, overloaded worksheets and question discussion reduced students’ learning interest.
Following the results and analysis of the study, the researcher provides some suggestions aimed at how to implement and promote the Movie-based Life Education Curriculum. Also, some suggestions for future research are proposed as reference to life education implement.
