The research targets the parents to the number of 152 whose children are mentally retarded and are attending elementary school in Chiayi County. We designed the “satisfactory degree and demand questionnaire” as a research tool by surveying those parents receiving education supports. With respect to education support institutions, four dimensions are covered, including “The defective education professional team", " Which elementary school the children attended of ", “Chiayi identification and Schooling of the Special Education Students Committee”, and “Chaiyi University”. For the type of support services, there are nine-dimension involvement including “obstacle accreditation”, ”school arrangement”, “life guidance and assistance”, “medical demand”, “welfare protection”, “parenting education”, “auxiliary instruments”, “teaching material”, and “Obstacle-free Facilities and environment”.
The data acquired are analyzed by using following statistic methods, descriptive analysis, T-test with independent sample, Scheffe method, multiple regression and stepwise regression analysis. Based on the result of these analyses, we have several major conclusions as follow:
1) In the aspect of usage and satisfactory survey, parents are less satisfied in “usage
ratio” in relation to supports offered by each institution, however; in the aspect of
extent of demand, the parents are highly having strong demand to get various support
services offered by each institution.
2) In the aspect of background variables, parents from different background variables have different extent of demand toward each separate item.
3) In the aspect of explaining quantity and predicting degree, 25% of total variance in the Total quantity table could be explained by the variable item of parents and mentally retarded children. The explanation quantity for the education support institution spreads between 20-29% under the four independent scales. In the overall scale and each independent scale, the age of children is vital predicting variable; however, each separate variable has different extent of prediction toward independent scale.
