Abstract
This study aimed to explore parent attitudes toward participating in
parent-child reading as well as the situations in Taichung County and Taichung City. Questionnaire was adopted to investigate the parents whose child was at 1st or 2nd grades. 1525 parents, selected by stratified random sampling, participated in the investigation. MANOVA, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson product-moment correlation were used to test the hypothesis. The main findings were as follows:
1. Female parents’ attitudes towards parent-child reading were more
active(or positive) than male parents’.
2. Parents with high socioeconomic status were more active than those in low socioeconomic status.
3. Parents with higher monthly income were more active than those with lower monthly income.
4. Parents in the city were more active than those in the country.
5. Parents with fewer children were more active than those with more
children.
6. Parents were more active toward their first child.
Based on the results mentioned above, some available suggestions were made for parents, schools, teachers, and researches in the future.
