Women's Basketball Team of our country had won numerous titles in the Asian matches, and four times to be qualified in the world women's basketball championships. Though with brilliant achievement, it’s a pity that few related historical literature or theses can be obtained in the academic circles at present. It was based on the above-mentioned factors which I chose the Development of Women’s Basketball Sport in Taiwan as the title for my research. This research aims to discover the background of the Development of Women’s Basketball Sport in Taiwan after the Retrocession as well as understanding its evolution and transition to serve as a reference for the development of women’s basketball sport in the future. The author adopted the historical research method and the documentary analysis method to explore its development. The range of this study starts from October, 1945 and ends in 2006. It discusses and analyzes in depth the background, schools, society and international exchanges of the development of women’s basketball sport. The results of the research are as follows: 1. The most important factor which influences the development of women's basketball sport in Taiwan is economy. 2. With the support of the government policy, curriculum arrangement and sufficient facility on the schools’ courses, the development of women's basketball sport at schools has established its foundation. 3. The development of women's basketball in the society prospers due to the policy and the growth of the economy; it declines due to the decline in economy and unequal resources. 4. There is no breakthrough in the international ranking of Chinese-Taipei women's basketball team which makes the development of women's basketball sport in the society stagnant.
