This study establishing the framework for materials flow accounting of biomass, and analyzing the affection of economical development when using biomass. The definition of bio-energy in Taiwan including the domestic farming and forestry plant, the methane, the municipal waste and the industrial waste direct use or has the energy after processing. According to the sources and the way using, this study to gather statistics each kind of biomass used in Taiwan, combine the framework for materials flow accounting of biomass with tradition energy, and analysis regarding the whole energy used. The result shows tendency of DMI, TMR, the DMC were rise year by year. During the period 1999 to 2005, DMI from 93,300 metric tons to 128,600 metric tons, TMR from 375,200 metric tons to 550,600 metric tons, DMC from 84,100 metric tons to 110,100 metric tons. This study also discusses the potential environmental benefit of biomass. According to the amount of biomass use in Taiwan , it can lead the direct greenhouse gas reduction is about 190,000 ~ 764,000 metric tons. Hypothesize that biomass can substitute for tradition energy, the amount of biomass use in Taiwan can lead potential greenhouse gas reduction is about 608,000 ~ 1,629,000 metric tons and indirect flows reduction is about 16.2 ~ 44 million metric tons. The framework we made can also application to policy evaluation, the result shows that according to the association of biomass use in Taiwan, develop on the biomass from waste, is more adaptable and effectively than develop on bio-diesel and bio-ethanol.
