These earlier studies focused on children in nursery and kindergarten, and most of these studies involved experimentally controlled design. This study examines mainly the relationship between child’s play occurring in nature and creativity. Thirty-five children (19 boys, 16 girls) in third grade participated in this study. Unlike previous studies on child play that focused on the report of the adult researchers, this study focuses on both the adult (researcher) and the children (subject), the children were required to declare their real play activities that just occurred during the intermission, except observed. The cognitive hierarchies of Smilansky (functional, constructive, pretended play, and rule games) were superimposed upon the social dimensions of play (solitary, parallel, and cooperative) for the framework of the assessments. All children were administered the divergent thinking test, the questionnaire of creative life experience, and a consensual assessment of story-telling task. The findings are followed: (a) Expression of “joyful” affect during play and numerous types of play were significantly correlated to creativity. (b)“Cooperative play” was positively correlated to creativity, contrary to “solitary” and “parallel” play. (c) “Constructive play”, “pretended play”, and “rule games” were positively correlated to creativity, contrary to “functional play.” (d)“Solitary- and cooperative-pretended play ”, “cooperative-constructive play ” and “cooperative-rule games” were positively correlated to creativity, contrary to “solitary- and cooperative- functional play .” The correlation between child's play and creativity was supported by these findings.
