The shipping agencies have since their existence gone through different periods. It has helped Taiwan grow economically. The government’s policy to open the market has allowed more competitors in and made the shipping world more competitive. In recent years many shipping companies have merged and this has caused the closure of some shipping agencies. Survival for shipping agencies is a big challenge. The shipping agencies can not use traditional ways to survive now. They must develop other businesses, find ways to be more competitive and also build their own niche. They should be able to offer a complete package to shipping owners. Face with the change in the shipping market environment, shipping agencies must start diversifying investments strategy in order to survive. Although diversifying investments strategy is one of the most important management strategies, the shipping industry has only made few studies about diversifying investments strategy. This paper will look closely at one shipping agency which I will call A in this paper. A has successfully used diversifying investments strategy to cope with the shipping industry new environment and it can be used as a reference for the shipping industry in the future.
