Trash fish and formulated diet are the major feed utilized in Taiwan’s grouper farming. Feed cost accounts 44.8% of the total production cost. The average unit cost of trash fish and formulated diet were 10-18 and 28.5-33 NT$ / kg (1US$ = 35 NT$), respectively. Fry cost accounts for 26.2% of the total production cost. The average unit cost of fry was17.1 NT$, and average fry size was 7.8 cm. Total average production cost of grouper was 149.7 NT$ / kg and ROI (Return of Investment) was 0.26. A Cobb-Douglas production function indicates production elasticities of grouper business was 2.43, showed the business was increasing return to scale. As a result, it indicated that the fry and feed were the major factors affecting profitability. Regarding to location of operation; grouper farming in Pindong has several advantages as compared in Kaohsiung. First of all, the stocking densities are much higher in Pindong, then water management in Pindong is applying brackish water by mixing sea water and ground water. As the results, the production cost is lower and production cycle is shorter, profitability is higher in Pindong than in Kaohsiung. The stocking densities applied in both Kaohsiung and Pindong are still within a safety range. The present study indicated that if the stocking densities were increased the profit intensity of feed was increasing. Moreover, that if the survival rate was increased the profit intensity of fry was increasing, but lead to the decreasing the profit intensity of electricity. Finally, there were three indices that were statistically computed based on the farming data. A better management of increasing the profitability could be achieved by jointly evaluating the three indices. Sha Miao 繆 峽 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 93 zh-TW |
