Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣師範大學 === 翻譯研究所 === 95 === This thesis is a commentary on the Chinese translation of The Routledge International Companion to Education. This thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter explains why the translator looked for this translation opportunity and in what way the commentary is presented. The second chapter provides information about the Companion, a scholastic collection contributed by 69 different authors’ papers and compiled by Bob Moon, Miriam Ben-Peretz, and Sally Brown. A sketch of its Chinese version’s current status is also provided. The third chapter is on the Companion’s literary style, and explains how the translated version manages to correspond to the original in terms of style. The fourth chapter, forming the major part of this thesis, is on the actual practices performed in this translation work, and is presented in three aspects: the strategies used to facilitate the translation, the errors indicating room for improvement, and the troubles caused by the lack of specialized knowledge. In presentation, each English sentence is coupled with its Chinese translation, and each strategy is backed up by scholastic opinions. The fifth chapter describes the interaction occurring between the translator and the publisher, presenting an interesting clause in the contract and a few editorial opinions. The sixth chapter concludes this thesis, providing thoughts on having completed the translation work and the commentary. What the translator gains from this experience can serve as a reference for other translators.
