Therefore, the purpose of the research would develop a context-aware Ubiquitous learning system on learning English in campus environment for the promotion of college students’ English abilities. According to the theory of situated learning, the learners can study in right time and right places. The sampling objects are 18 NTNU (National Taiwan Normal University) students who do not major in English. Moreover, the range is located in the Library-campus in NTNU which must cover with WLAN. The wireless PDAs includes all the materials can be used freely by the students. Certainly, after performing language teaching and learning in one month, the sampling object’s information, such as learning portfolios, the grades of their pretests and posttests, learning motivations and learning satisfaction, are be stored by handheld devices in cooperating with advanced wireless technology. The research shows that every learners study in the average of 6 hours. That is, they learned actively English due to the system. As a result, their learning motivations are all good but the learners are mostly low self- esteem. Specially, the lower prior knowledge group gain more achievement than the higher knowledge group in the posttest. As for learning satisfaction and learning effect, the most influence is learning environment. The research proposes a context-aware ubiquitous English learning system in a campus environment, which can detect the learner location by wireless positioning techniques, then retrieve specific learning content based on location information to individual learners through wireless networks. Currently, the system prototype has been successfully implemented on PDA and it has been applied to assist English situated learning for learning performance promotion in a campus environment.
