Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 台灣文化研究所 === 95 === The purpose of the study is to explore that how village temples and shrines affect the space management of villages, the operation of a special organization, and the daily life of villagers. From the aspect of the ceremony executors, the researcher addressed the process of the assignment, choosing, training, and interaction of masters in a microcosmic and concrete way. Through the a special and traditional set-- Shueian Village(水垵村) in Wangan Township(望安鄉) in Penghu, those specific credal activities and masters’ profiles were clearly presented. Liwang Temple(李王宮), where the center of faith and spirit of villagers, is also the core of the whole town. The order of the local society is exactly connected by this unique and important temple. At the same time, Fuguan(福官), a kind of masters in Puan faction(普庵派), plays the executive role in any procedure of dharma affairs and ceremonies. Besides, a dang-gi/ki-tong(童乩) is served as the soul of all kinds of activities. He/She is the numen of religious ceremonies, the conductor of activities, the participant of decisions, the angel of Fuguan, and the coherence person of villagers’ thoughts. Moreover, not only the activity of “Entering Fragrant Hill”(進香山) held in Tiantan Mountain (天台山) in Wangan Island(望安島), “ but also that of “Sending the king”(送王) given in August 8th every year is unique faith ceremony there. The target of the former is to pray for peace, fortune, and a happy life from King of heaven, hell, and ocean. And, the procedure of the later activity is simple but solemn. It is totally different from other systems of Kings’ ships. To Shueian villagers, a memorial ceremony not only reflects their beliefs in God, but also expands the approval sense of villagers who work or study out of the town. Also, a memorial ceremony could obviously raise the social reputation of Shueian Village. In fact, its essence meaning is greater than the meaning of symbolizing. As a traditional and close fishing village with deficient resources, it’s no doubts that soul faith and mental sustenance is extremely needed. Through the financial supports of villagers who are in sojourn and the ceremonies conducted by unsalaried masters, the faith activities in Shueian Village would last and continue forever.
