| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 台灣文化研究所 === 95 === Proverbs is the most common language that has been used in the daily life, and also the colloquialism culture that can most express the life experiences and wisdom. Proverbs blend all that the ancestors saw and heard to become important culture assets. Using terseness and energy to provide their experience, it has offered enlightenment and direction to the later generations as a reflection of ancestors’ wisdom.
Proverbs are crystals of experience and wisdom, epitomes of natural conditions, felling, thinking and beliefs among a particular group of people. Therefore, proverbs reflect the individuality and culture of a nation. Proverbs blend all that the ancestors saw and heard to become important culture assets. Because each area has his own folk, the languages and the proverbs depending on the differences make his own characteristics on the culture. Since derivation and circulation are closely linked with regional social structure and geographic nature, the proverbs is the best reference of record to study a nation or an area.
This thesis is divided into six chapters. The First Chapter, ”Introduction”, is mainly the research motivation and purpose of this text, and literacy discussion, and the way of research. Also it explains the principle of classification and extraction style on proverbs. The Second Chapter, ”Proverbs and Region Culture”, is the research about the details for the definition of proverbs, relation between proverbs and folk literature, and the relation between proverbs and region culture. The Third Chapter and The Four Chapter are “Style of the Proverbs in the Tainan City” which contains 128 items proverbs. Each proverb is listed, explained and analyzed phrase by phrase, and is marked with phonetic symbols word by word. Depending on the relation of local developing and the transition of culture the categories are divides into two topics “culture history and religion”. Under the topics there are seven sections : “Personage”, “Development of the Group”, “Turmoil of the War”, “Folk of the Religion”, “Folklore”, “Custom” , ”People of the Life”. Chapter Five, ”From the Proverbs to see the development of Tainan City”discusses the development of Tainan City by the connection of the proverbs the produced in different periods. Chapter Six, “Conclusion”, is about the functions of proverbs in education and language: understanding the region culture, loving the country more, keeping the local language and hand down for generations. Proverbs are crystals of experience and wisdom, to provide places the ways of continuous operation to reach the source of the local development.
