This study investigates into a total of sixty four games and six hundred fifty corner kicks with a focus on thirty-two teams in final competitions of the year 2006 world cup. Along with literature and competition analysis, with a slice help from video’s retro-reflective method, I have generated the result as follows:
I. Corner kicks in different placement regions:
1. There is a huge significance of differences of corner kicks in six different placement regions;
2. Nearly 80% of corner kicks aim for penalty kick area front region (1,2,4,5 region), especially 1st area within gate region for this has made more than 30% of corner kicks;
3. As investigated 1st, 2nd, and 5th region has most corner kicks; therefore to both attack and defense side having good control over these regions determine their success. Further this description, to attack side, these three regions are most crucial to place corner kicks; and to defense side, these three regions are most essential to counterattack the attack side.
II. Success rate in different corner kicks placement regions:
1. Huge differences of corner kicks success rate in six different placement regions;
2. Amongst above regions, the 3rd one takes up 75%, and 6th takes up 44.68% the 2nd in order. Although these two regions possess highest success rate, their defense are the weakest. Consequently with increased success rate, however to the number of successful kicks, these regions are not the priority choice to the attack side;
3. The 1st regions, with lowest success rate in corner kicks 17.75%. However its successful placement number is 169 times, which has 30 times effective kicks, and 169 times invalid kicks, it becomes the most popular placement region for all teams.
III. Corner kicks’ scoring results in different placement regions:
1. No huge differences to corner kicks’ scoring rate in six different placement regions;
2. In the 1st of placement regions, 30 times of effective corner kicks has 5 scoring balls. This means every six successful corner kicks, there is one scoring chance.
