By the administration of teaching activities, the researcher made a study for the progress of the primary pupils’ estimation and number sense. The outcome would also be provided as a reference resource for the number sense curriculum development in our country. The focus group in this research is sixth grade primary pulils. The research outcome was analysed through both the quality and the quantity. The researcher interviewed one pupil from the lower, the middle and the higher level in order to look into pupils’progress of estimation before and after the teaching. By using the descriptive statistics and contingent T sample examining to analyze the results of estimation examine before and after teaching, the researcher investigated pupils’ performance in estimation before and after the teaching. By using the descriptive statistics to analyze the results of number sense examination and number sense diagnostic test, the researcher compared the difference of performance in number sense between the experiment group and the general group. The research outcomes are as followed: 1. The estimation experimental curriculum is effective in strengthening pupils’ estimation performance and capability. Therefore, it is feasible to put this experimental program into the grade sixth mathematical curriculum. 2. Before the estimation teaching, the general performance in the sixth grade pupils’ estimation is poor. In sub-item performance, they did best in “can extimate Integer, decimal and fraction to round number” and worst in “can use the four abilities flexbly”. 3. After the estimation teaching, the sixth grade pupils’ had a significant progress in general and in every dimension within estimation, especially in “can estimate the result of arithmetic operations” and “can use the four abilities flexbly”. 4. After the estimation teaching, pupils in different level were improved in their estimation performance. The middle level pupils had the most obvious progress, and then were the top-level pupils. The progress among the lower level pupils was not significant. 5. According to the result of the number sense examination, the experiment group had better performance than the general group both in general and in every dimension within number sense. 6. According to the result of the number sense diagnostic test, the experiment group had exceptional performance in general and in every dimension within number sense, especially in “the performance in developing plan for operation and estimating the rationality of result of arithmetic operations ” Finally, base on the results of the research, the researcher advanced the suggestions to be the reference for the curriculum design, teaching and research in the future.
