Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 體育教育學系 === 95 === The drum-beating dance is a common type of performance in traditional ceremonies in Taiwan but such a folk skill has gradually declined. With the government’s impetus to folk sports, Feiying troupe first entered schools among the folk drum-beating dancing troupes. Feiying troupe has played a vital role in the process of the drum dance in Taiwan. This study has eagerly attempted to dig into the origin of the target troupe, its practical operation, and its contents and essence of existence and hopes to make significant contributions to the drum-beating dancing activity in its future development.
To sum up, the purposes of this research are: (1) to understand the historic origin of the drum-beating dance, its development, and its transformational process, (2) to understand the establishment and practical operation of Feiying drum-beating dancing troupe, and (3) to probe into the contents and essence of existence of Feiying drum-beating dancing troupe.
This study adopted the means of historical research and document analysis, complemented by field survey. Following conclusions have been made:
1. Based on the currently existing documents to find out the historic origin of the drum-beating dance in Taiwan, the researcher believes the drum-beating dance in Taiwan has a close relationship with “the dance of big drum and parasol” in Fujian Province, China.
2. As for the establishment and practical operation of Feiying drum-beating dancing troupe, its performance locations range from funeral occasions, cultural occasions, and ceremonies at the temples honoring gods or goddesses. Its members mainly come from the neighboring villages, regionally governed. The most particular of the troupe is that the members of Feiying lived in their leaders’ places when young and received their leaders’ care.
3. The drum-beating dancing performance consists of sixteen different dancing arrays; it does not drag whilst the performance is proceeding and is usually accomplished at one go. After an in-depth interview, the intentions hidden behind the dancing arrays are diverse and can be generalized as follows: (1) to worship god (2) to pursue good fortune and shun calamity (3) defensive type (4) imitative type (5) hedonic type.
