Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 音樂教育學系碩士班 === 95 === This thesis is composed of four main sections:
(1) A literature review of Beethoven’s life and his composition style of vocal works, in particular, his seminal piece, Missa Solemnis: In this section, an introduction to the composer’s life, works, style of his vocal compositions, and the history and development of masses, is followed by a discussion of the creation and content of Missa Solemnis.
(2) Musical expressions in Missa Solemnis: By following the cycle of five texts in the mass—the Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei—the relationship between lyrics and music is further explored. In addition, how tonality, cadence, motifs, relationship between lyrics and melody line are organised as well as the musical expressions embodied in each part of the mass are fully studied in order to understand the virtuosity and excellence of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and to provide a reference for music appreciation teaching or music theory.
(3) A vocal performance interpretation of Missa Solemnis: Based on the overall musical expression of lyrics, style, motif, melody and tempo in this vocal work, a personal interpretation of how it can be performed is presented as a reference for future performers and further research.
(4) Conclusion on the study of the three parts mentioned above.
