Caring for the patient also influences the physical and mental health for primary caregivers. Therefore, when we have a further understanding of the stress of caregivers,we can develop stress coping strategies to protect the physical and mental health for caregivers. From the perspective of the potential benefit brought by leisure activities, the purpose of the present study was to explore the leisure coping belief and strategies of caregivers as well as their relationship to their stress brought by providing care, and their physical and mental health. The study subjects contain 150 primary caregivers of schizophrenic patients recruited from the family members of patients who were outpatients or were admitted to the day-care unit of a medical center at Taipei or from the members of National Alliance of the Mental Ill. From March to June, 2006, the data were collected by semi-structured interview. The content of questionnaire included basic data, stressors, leisure coping beliefs, leisure coping strategies and SF-36. The results of the study showed that the stress of care giving negatively influenced the physical and mental health, that leisure coping beliefs positively influenced leisure coping strategies, that leisure coping strategies positively influenced the physical and mental health, that leisure coping beliefs negatively influenced the stress of care giving, and that leisure coping strategies positively influenced the stress of care giving. The study results have implications for the health promotion programs of the caregivers of schizophrenic patients. Chienho Chen Wei J. Chen 陳建和 陳為堅 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 114 zh-TW |
