RESEARCH DESING AND METHODS:The quasi- experimental research design was used with convenience sampling method for this study. The target population was the normal spontaneous delivery primipara women, which recruited from a postpartum ward in the southern part of Taiwan. A total of 41 subjects who met the selective criteria were assigned to the experimental group(n=21) and the control group(n=20). Sheng-Hua-Tang was also given twice (Am & Pm) a day for 7 days in the experimental group, participants in the control group only received the general postpartum care. Participants were observed for a week; home visit was conducted everyday to measure and record participants’ uteri and lochia change. The data of abdominal echo graphy and Superoxide Anion Radical (O2-•) were measured in laboratory, and observe the condition of participants’ uterine invoution and extravasation and all of the participants had to fill the questionnaire. there were measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using SPSS10.0 for Windows and Chi-square test, Independent-Samples t-test, Paired-Samples t-test and repeated measures. RESULTS: First, the primipara women tend to “no idea” and “wrong” in regard to the basic conception of Sheng-Hua-Tang, even more, the viewpoint for the anticipative effects on Sheng-Hua-Tang is between “agreement” and “no opinion” , the postpartum recovery on Sheng-Hua-Tang is in a little bit between “yes” and “no”. Second, results from post-test indicated no statistical significant differences in the uterine involution and the lochia change among primipara women in both experimental and control group after Sheng-Hua-Tang intervention was intervened in postpartum care. Therefore, this result cannot match the research hypothesis. Third, the postpartum recovery of the experimental group and the control group, we find there is no conspicuous difference on statistics after the experiment intervenes in Sheng-Hua-Tang nursing care and testing the subjective symptoms except the differences about bloated bosom, no enough lactation, sweating a lot, limbs dropsy and weak, so it some reach the study hypothesis Fourth, with regarding to the postpartum care for both experimental and control group, after Sheng-Hua-Tang intervention was intervened, results from the post-test shown that there were statistical significant differences in the amount of superoxide anion radical (O2-•) among two groups of primipara women, which met the research hypothesis. Fifth, after Sheng-Hua-Tang intervention was intervened, results from the pre- and post-test shown the statistical significant differences in the amount of superoxide anion radical (O2-•) in the experimental group of primipara women, which met the research hypothesis. CONCLUSIONS:In conclusion, our study reveal a significant effect of Sheng-Hua- Tang on the normal spontaneous delivery primipara women uterine invoution, lochia and superoxide anion radical. but there were not significant effect in varity on filled the questionnaire. We suggested to adapt the study results into postpartum nursing care to reduce postpartum bleeding because of the misunderstanding and abuse to ensure postpartum women’s health condition afterwards.
