A linear regression model, number of birds= 2.2dbZ-50, r2=0.997, p=0.001, was first established according to data collected in 2004 to estimate number of birds detected on the radar images. In 2005, ground count result showed that number of birds peaked on 23 September; the radar analysis showed its peak on 24 September. As for the time, the radar analysis illustrated it peaked at 17:00~18:00. Visual study found 5.6% of migrating birds returned to land from the water. Most birds (67.5%) headed for Bashi Strait via Mobitou. Around half of birds (49.5%) flew south in flocks of under 100 birds. The flight speed averaged 50.88 ± 7.56 km/h(n=88)and the fastest (53.6 km/h, n=54) occurred with the tailwind while flying with crosswind was the secondary (48.0 km/h, n=23) and with lateral headwind is the slowest(3.4 km/h, n=11). The mean flight height was 190.25 ± 56.34 m(n=88). Although the flight height was lower under the condition of adverse wind, there was no significant difference. It was conservatively estimated that the number of Ardeidae passed through Henchun Peninsula during the whole migrating season was around 211,014 birds. Sun Yuan-Hsun 孫元勳 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 37 zh-TW
