According to parent materials in Tainan County, the rural soils were divied into six types including Sandstone-shale lime new-alluvial soils, sandstone-shale lime-nodule new-alluvial soils, non-lime sandstone-shale new-alluvial soils, lime-nodule Taiwan clays, non-lime Taiwan clays and sandstone-shale old-alluvial soils. Based on Soil Taxonomy, they include Entisoils, Inceptisoils and Alfisoils. However, the dominant Soil Orders are Entisols and Inceptisols, and Alfisols were only found in local Taiwan clays. Pedotransfer function (PTF) has been used to predict soil properties, which were determined costly. Therefore, this study applied PTF to predict cation exchange (CEC) for the rural soils in Tainan county by the variables of pH, organic matter (OM) and clay, and further verify the predicted CEC values with measured CEC. The study results showed that the variables of pH, OM and clay corrected well with CEC (r2> 0.77 (n=411). Moreover, r2 were more than 0.80 under variables of OM and clay. Therefore, the differences between predicted and measured CEC are lower than 10% evaluated by OM and clay. Based on the above analysis, clay can be effectively predicted CEC for the rural soils in Tainan county, and their relationship is CEC=0.47×clay(%). Zeng-Yei Hseu 許正一 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 93 zh-TW
