Notably, little empirical research has been done regarding how self-serving motive may affect OCB in Chinese society. Therefore, in this study, we consider both other-serving and self-serving motives to predict OCB. Due to the importance and specific context of renqing in Chinese society, we also examine the effect of renqing on OCB. Moreover, in Chinese society, people emphasize guanxi, and the influences of situational factor and social learning. This research explores guanxi, perception of organizational political climate, and attribution for OCB as moderators of the relationships among motives, renqing, and OCB. To avoid common method variance, data are dyad-approach collected from employees and peers by the questionnaire. Results revealed that other-serving motive associates positively with OCB. And self-serving motive and renqing associate negatively with OCB, respectively. We also found (1) expressive guanxi moderates positively the relationship between other-serving motive and OCB, and moderates negatively the relationships between self-serving motive and renqing, on the one hand, and OCB on the other hand; (2) instrumental guanxi moderates positively the relationship between other-serving motive and OCB; (3) perception of organizational political climate moderates positively the relationship between other-serving motive and OCB, and moderates negatively the relationship between renqing and OCB; (4) attribution for OCB moderates positively the relationship between other-serving motive and OCB. Based on our findings, some limitations, implications, and directions for future research are discussed as well. Cheng-Chen Lin 林鉦棽 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 143 zh-TW
