Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立屏東教育大學 === 教育心理與輔導學系碩士班 === 95 === The present study explored the effect of mortality salience on the motivation to nurture and rescue one’s own children. About 500 participants were administered a experimental questionnaire that included the manipulation of either mortality salience or dental-pain salience. After answering the distracting task of rating one’s mood, participants answered the scales that measure the willingness of investing in one’s children, and made choice as to whom they will be most likely to rescue in the critical life-or-death situations. It was found that when reminded of death, parents’ motivation to breed and save children became stronger as age increased. The age effect was significant only when people with children were reminded of death. The findings suggest that under the mortality-salience condition, older parents are more motivated to adopt the biological mode of helping descendents to seek symbolical immortality.
