Abstract
The study, based on educational staffs in public elementary schools of Kaohsiung City, looks into the perception of educational staffs toward education supervision, and then examines the discrepancies in the mode and operation mechanism, as well as function of education supervision between staffs under different background variables. Findings and results of the integrated study provide reference material through the suggestion of feasible developmental strategy to achieve promotion of education supervision in primary schools. The survey conducted in the study consists of 762 questionnaires, of which 90.3 percent are returned and 88.2 percent are valid. Statistical information collected in the survey are described and analyzed through t-test, one-way ANOVA and multiple stepwise regression methods.
The following conclusion can be drawn from findings of the study:
1.Educational staffs in primary schools of Kaohsiung City have a positive perception of education supervision model, and their perception of the “developmental education supervision” model is the highest; there is a marked discrepancy in the general perception of the education supervision model between educational staffs under different background variables other than those of “age” and “years in education”.
2.Educational staffs in Kaohsiung City primary schools have a positive perception of the operation mechanism of education supervision, and their perception of “teachers’ learning culture” is the highest; there is a noticeable difference in the perception of the operation mechanism of education supervision between educational staffs under different background variables other than those of “age” and “years in education”.
3.Educational staffs in Kaohsiung City primary schools have a positive perception of the function of education supervision, and their perception of the “improvement of teaching method” is the highest; there is a marked difference in the perception of the general function of education supervision between educational staffs under different background variables other than that of “age”.
4.The background variables “whether implemented”, “formative state of teaching staff” and “current position”, “clinical supervision” in the education supervision model, and “important supervision work” in the operation mechanism of education supervision are key elements in the anticipation of the function of education supervision.
5.The functional effect of education supervision is connected with the coordination of the education supervision model and the operation mechanism of education supervision.
According to the above conclusion, the suggestions made in the study serve as reference for the applied use of education as well as for future research.
