Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships among the attachment style, shyness and life adjustment of elementary school
studends.
The method of this study was questionnaire survey. The subjects of this study were 1010 fifth and sixth graders (513 boys and 497 girls) from 34 classes in Kaohsiung. The subjects were tested with the instruments including Basic Information Questionnaire, Parental Attachment Style Scale, Shyness Scale and Questionnaire of Elementary School Children's Life Adjustment. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA and stepwise multiple regression.
The findings of this research were as follows:
1. The attachment styles of the elementary school students in Kaohsiung City were good. Children had higher secure attachment with their father
and mother.
2. The elementary school students of different siblings ,family structure
and family socio-economic status showed significant differences in their attachment style.
3. Girls were shier than boys.
4. The elementary school students of different attachment style showed
significant differences in their shyness and life adjustment.
5. Children’s attachment styles and shyness could predict their life adjustment.
