The instruments used in the study were Personal Background Inventory, Children’s Filial Role Perception Scale, and Parent-child Relationship Scale. The study used cluster sampling and investigated 970 fifth and sixth grade students from public elementary schools in Kaohsiung area in the Academic Year of 2006. After analyzing data, the findings were as follows: (1) Most elementary school students’ filial role perception has high positive response. (2) Most elementary school students’ parent-child relationship is above average level. (3) Different city, graders, gender, birth order, family structure and family social-economic status have differences in the filial role perception among elementary school students. (4) Different graders, gender, birth order, family structure and family social-economic status have differences in the parent-child relationship among elementary school students. (5) The different degrees of students’ filial role perception show different parent-child relationship. (6) The filial role perception of elementary school students has strong positive correlation with parent-child relationship. (7)The filial role perception of the elementary school students has strong explanatory power in predicting elementary school students’ parent-child relationship. Based on above findings, the study offers suggestions for parents, students, schools and further research respectively. 1. For parents: (1)To have appropriate expectation and concern to children based on their individual differences. (2)To enhance parent-child interaction and spare time to keep child company. (3)To improve parents’ communication strategy and skills in order to enhance parent-child relationship. 2. For students: (1)To enhance the filial role perception of parent-child contact. (2)To enhance the skills of communication and resections in order to improve parent-child relationship. (3)Filial role perception is equally important for boys and girls. But boys should pay more attention to that. 3. For school: (1)To promote the perception of filial role of children in order to improve parent-child relationship. (2)To activate life education in order to rise the children’s positive perception of filial role. (3)To design multiple courses in regular curriculum in order to enhance child’s perception of filial. (4)To provide related seminars for the child to internalize the perception of filial and appreciate the eternal loving care from the dedicative parent. 4. For further research: (1)The research subjects might have to be enhanced . (2)The research content might have to be enhanced . (3)The methodology might have to be variegated .
